Thirty years ago there were no computers in my school and the first time I saw them it was in tenth grade, 1985. I think students will be best serve by teaching them how to be critical thinkers, become comfortable with today's technology and allow them to learn the new technology, that is in our future, as it is developed.

Students need to learn to use technology effectively as it integrates most aspects of their lives, starting at a very early age. Those students who do not have access at an early age are already handicapped so schools need to be able to provide access as soon as possible.

They will need to know how to word process, use an excel speadsheet, create a powerpoint presentation, how to determine if information from the internet is dependable/factual. They will also need to be able to determine appropriate language and abbreviations for different situations (ie. school vs. text messaging)

Students will need to know how to navigate the world of information that is available to them anywhere and anytime. Students will need to be critical consumers of information knowing how to identify credible sources and information, knowing how to process and digest information that anwers the research (learning) questions they have at the given time.

Knowing that technology will be the major medium for all life activities, students will need to be problem solvers who can trnasfer their knowledge of technology they know to the new technology that is appearing all the time.

Students will have to be able to use various forms of technonlgy to communicate with others around the world as well as teachers and fellow students. They will have to be proficient with computers and other technology to complete homwework assignments and to become marketable in the workplace. They may need to be able to communicate with students and teachers via computers in order to comment on their daily assignments and make further analysis of the information learned in the classroom.

For students to be successful when they hit their prime, they must be able to handle change. They must be able to adapt to the ever changing world of technology. We are already experiencing change at an extremely fast rate. It is only going to increase. Students must also be able to problem solve technology issues before they become an issue. They will hopefully also be able to resolve issues that focus on new technology they themeselves are helping to create. Overall, students will need to reamin proactive with staying updated with technology, so as not to get left in the dust.

What do students need to know.....they need to be able to think and understand that they world is a very big place. They need to know that if they do not challenge themselves in terms of thought they will have a real small view of the world. That is why we actually have to use the technology to enhance the students thought or small mindedness will continue to run rampant
